joining RASC working unit Lingfield Surry. in 1955 written by Peter Taylor
I enlisted RASC 15th Feb 1955 as a Regular, After the usual training at Aldershot and Yeovil I was sent to Lingfield barracs near East Grinsted. I soon settled in and got the Job Driving the C O a Col Cockeril, I made 1 mistake I used his landrover to go home on 48 pass, This cost me 1 month and a posting. The 1 month was not to bad but when I was asked where I wanted to be posted to I told them Woolwich would be nice as I could live out from there. The actual posting saw me arrive at a tube stn on Tottenam court road & from there to Black bush Airport , I thought this Funny as Where I had asked for was only South London And I did'nt think I would need a plane to get there. Our next stop was Brindissi on the toe of Italy where I found out we were on the way to Singapore, After hopping from country to country we arrived Singapore and was taken to NEE SOON where my real army work started.
