Belize CA in 1979

 I remember patroling out of Holdfast and us having to get to a grid a few clicks away for a replen by chopper. So we get there at about 13.00 hrs and clear a DZ for the chopper to arrive at 15.00hrs. Well it was hot work and the water was running low. We cleared a DZ as per the pamphlet in good time for the replen only to be informed by rear echelon that the chopper had problems and would not be comming. So we had to tab off to Spanish Water hole and use our millbanks bags and puri-tabs to clean the water from it. Fortunatley I carried seven water bottles in my bergan and did not need to drink that crap, but many did and had the shits. The moral is where were all the other helicopters that you see in the Army adverts? things that make you go Ooo!! |
