Favourite Poems...

Teresa...This is the most pleasurable thread I have ever followed on any forum...So many Poems...So many words... Crafted by supreme wordsmiths...My new folder is bursting with the contributions from you all...

I admire the art of writing words that ’scan’...descriptive words that tell stories whether in Rhyme or not... My preference are Lyrics to songs...which are another form of poetry...But I was particularly struck by words that you wrote in the introduction to your thread...
And I quote;["touched me deeply at a time when I was looking at the smoke curling up from my blown out birthday cake candles and being somehow surprised that I had actually arrived in my 60’s and that my life was just as fleeting as that smoke!! That I was now looking down the long road of ’getting old’."]unquote...

I am now going to quote a similar sentiment from a song by one of my favourite Lyricists...the late Johnny Mercer...quote; ["The days of wine and roses laughed, and ran away, like a child at play...
Over meadow land toward a closing door, a door marked ’Never More’, that wasn’t there before"...]unquote...

Teresa... My comparing your words to Johnny Mercer’s is the finest compliment that I personally could pay you...Trev.

POEMS

Trevor I want to say a sincere thank you for your kind compliments.  I am truly touched that you said what you did and graciously accept it as a gift.  Its my birthday on Wednesday and although I’m giving myself a fortnight in the south of Spain for it I know that there are some things that money cannot buy...your gift to me is a case in point*

Your words also reminded me that I have  got a couple of pieces I wrote years ago. One of them was in actual fact written as possible lyrics. I have never shared them, never had the need to, and I have noticed a couple of people have vaguely mentioned writing their own poetry?

What do you say we move the goal posts and include some of our own poets on this thread?? I am willing to stick my neck out if you all are..I would have to wait till I got back to dig them out but if anyone wants to start the ball rolling then jump in!!! Hope the thread is still going though??

Just do it, you don’t need permission.

I for one look forward to your prose.

Murray

Favourite Poems...

Morning Everyone...Just a quicky before I forget...The original poem "Days of Wine and Roses, was as follows;

VITAE SUMMA BREVIS SPEM NOS VETET INCOHARE LONGAM

They are not long, the weeping and the laughter,
Love and desire and hate;
I think they have no portion in us after
we pass the gate.
They are not long, the days of wine and roses:
Out of a misty dream
our path emerges for a while, then closes
within a dream.

-- Ernest Dowson, 1867-1900 --

[The title translates, from the Latin, as
’The brief sum of life forbids us the hope of enduring long’
and is from a work by Horace]

P.S...That’s yer lot fer na..I’m off for me baff...Nursie is tapping her foot with impatience...TC
