Quoting: Carey
This may be a forlorn hope but I was in the 16/5th Lancers when we were stationed in Egypt and Libya with the actual month we went from the first to the second being February 1950.
There was a Regimental photo taken in Egypt sometime between August 1949 and the moving date and I have lost mine somehow.
I’ve been chasing one for ages and naturally tried the Regimental Archives who claim they haven’t got a copy.  I find that strange but there you go.  A problem now is that the mob has since amalgamated with the 17/21st Lancers and that I suppose has made things a bit more difficult to trace.
Are there any old ex-16/5th Lancers like myself still knocking around who might frequent this site and who have a print of this photo?
I would pay all costs involved and guarantee the return of such a print.  This is probably the last place I can try so I am just going to cross my fingers and hope.
Best wishes to all,
Terry Carey.

Forlorn hope ..... the detachment which was used to breach a wall in the penninsula war (timish)and the subaltern who led the forlorn hope was guaranteed his captaincy if he lived******* not many captains came from the forlorn hope!!!!!!!!!! good luck with your search mate.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your good wishes.  If you ever watched the television series about Richard Sharpe - the character created by Bernard Cornwell in the brilliant books mainly about the Penisular Wars their was one episode which concerned a ’Forlorn Hope’.  It was the first time I had heard about it and it’s no wonder that promotion was offered to any man leading such a mission and surviving.
Perhaps that’s what subconciously made me use the expression.
Regards,
Terry.

Hi Reg,
Didn’t we have some contact a while ago? Maybe a year or so but I recall your name.  Anyway thanks for the offer.  If it’s possible can you E-mail it across.  If yes then I’ll let you have my address via the FR network.  At least it will give me part of the mob.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Terry.
