This is for anyone who would like to share an experience which, before it happened, they would never have dreamed that it could ever take place.
When I got married there was no talk of moon landings except in Science Fiction, TV was still black and white, foreign holidays were almost unheard of except for the rich and all women wore one piece swimming costumes on the beach. There may have been exceptions like the famous Ile de Levant where young women disported themselves topless but that was a fantasy to most men - and women I suppose.
Car ownership was only for the few, hire purchase was the way for most to own anything costing more than a pound or two and many things were so basic we’d laugh at them now. No microwaves, few washing machines, flat irons and mangles were quite normal.
Imagine things a few years on. Not much more than twenty years after I never would have dreamed that we’d be on a beach in Ibiza where any clothing to be seen was simply piled on the sand along with the lemonade and sandwiches in a bag.
Anyway there I was standing a few yards away from my wife who was lying on a lounger whilst I was talking to a woman from America. She was wearing only make up, jewellery and perfume and I didn’t even have a ring on. Her husband, as equally unconcerned as my wife, was lying on another lounger. Times, they say, do change but who would have dreamed that such a short time would see such a change.
