Taxation.

The government is now on an apparent crusade to ’out’ those people who avoid paying the ’correct’ amount of Income Tax.  This is called "Tax Avoidance" and is legal (as opposed to "Tax Evasion" which is illegal.)
For many years there has been debate on these matters but the clever people who understand taxation law manage to get around the laws that are on the statute books, thereby giving advice to the wealthy on how to pay as little tax as possible.
Now, I know that everyone on this site wants to pay as much tax as possible thereby giving the Chancellor the revenue to run the country but, if you were wealthy enough to avoid paying the correct amount of tax, wouldn’t you???

Hhhhhmmmm!!!

No. Actually! Pay unto Caesar what is due unto Caesar..............
I have no issues with paying over what is a fair figure in any form of taxation that can be justified and is properly used once collected.

Now, there would be my issue. Is it a fair figure (on a pro rata basis) ? I think it is but is it being properly used once collected?? Not a chance! I am referring to Income Tax here and not the ’criminal taxation’ system that is applied to fuel, alchohol and tobacco. I do not drink much these days and I ceased smoking in 1990 but that is irrelevant. These revenue grabbing taxes are vindictive and grossly unfair in their application.

I do not believe that high earners should be allowed to ’get away with it.

Getting away with what, Mike?
The loopholes are there so we should be asking why they are not being plugged by the government.
The problems of said ’loopholes’ has been around since taxation began way back in the mists of time and every time one is blocked a new one opens up!! There will always be those that are ’savvy’ and will find their way around and exploit such attempts to. T’would be easier on the mind if the Income tax was used to benefit the nation as a whole instead of wasting countless billions on all sorts of schemes that only fail because of ineptitude.

Hhhhhmmmm!!!

As I said then?!.............

This practice highlights yet again the inherrent greed engendered by Capitalism. I cannot complain about Capitalism as I am part of the framework. However, simply saying that something is there to be exploited does not make the practice any more acceptable to the ’honest’ citizen who believes that everyone who is capable of doing so, should pay their way.

Tell you what Mike and Steve, it annoy me more when someone gets away with paying taxes and you see them living it up in mansions where as the working man who slogs it out and works overtime to earn a decent wage and sees a 1/3 of that hard earned money going to the taxman to help those non paying tax fidlers to enjoy free health treatment, free housing and benifits while others can only get by on the wages they get--Jimmy Carr who has found a loop hole in paying less tax should be made to pay the same rate as everyone, I`ve paid taxes from the day that I left school right up to retirement, and it gets my goat seeing these entertainers getting away with these scams, how many more are coming to light, it will probably knock that stupid grin off Jimmy Carrs face if he has to repay the full amount back--never liked the man and as a comic he expects to get laughs from swearing, definately not on my Christmas list.
