The establishment ignoring of Bomber Command started with Churchill, he rode Harris’s back to strike back at Germany & later encouraged him in his de-housing policy, then after the war he realised the human & political cost of the policies he had encouraged & turned his back on them & bomber Command for political advantage. He may have been a great war time leader but he was not a nice man, he was a politician nuff said.

British Armed Forces Federation have issued a statement "Due to Newspaper controversy, the B.B.C. are to screen  the event live on their News Channel at midday" . They will also show" Bomber Command, a Tribute" at 5pm. B.B.C. 2. on the same day.

 Backsliding Bast....ds

Alright John, The Beeb can’t win for losing can they! They don’t show what you want when you want it you slag them off, they put on programmes paying tribute to Bomber Command & you bitch, make your piggin’ mind up! How about pointing out the difference in the way the Commonwealth is treating their ex-Bomber Command bods & the way our gang of criminals in office are treating ours, or will that go against what everyone else on the thread is saying.

Its amazing how you manage to turn everything in to a pop at the Conservative govt. past or present.
I was simply informing posters that the B.B.C. has done a turnaround on the Commemeration Ceremony, due to Media pressure they are now to screen it live. It is well documented about the Powers that be have not done something sooner.
I am only pleased at the result that we can watch this.

As for Churchill and Bomber Harris differences all this is available on Google (As i am sure you are aware)
Harris thought the "Bouncing Bomb" was doomed to failure and would lose many Bombers and lives ( which it did) and also Churchill and his Military advisors, were keen to attack Germany so it is obvious there would be great differences of opinion.

It would be so refreshing if you could leave politics out of your posts but I guess that woukld be too much to hope for. Cheers Scouse.

This Memorial has SFA to do with Churchill or Harris, or indeed wartime politics in any shape or form, but has everything to do  with the men who can most truly be accounted brave, in that having the knowledge of what was best in the meaning of life, went out night after night with the distinct probability that a lot of them wouldn’t come back.

When they did get back, they saw the vacant spaces on the airfields , and the number of empty chairs at empty tables in the messes and knew they could be next, and yet the very next night they did it all again because they were Britain’s only offensive weapon.

This Memorial is about the 55000 who died using it.

Alright John, All I did was point out the fact that Churchill turned against Bomber Command, the only disagreement he had with Harris during the war was Churchill wanted more area bombing, that is until the world saw the remains of German cities notably Dresden (which Churchill had insisted must be bombed) then the British Government & Churchill turned against Harris & his Command to the extent that no campaign medal was struck for Bomber crews & no official memorial was set up for them & Harris was the only commander in chief not to be given a peerage in 1946.

I have told you before you do not tell me what I can or cannot post. As it is my second posts was agreeing with the other posters on this thread, so wind your neck in & try to get your facts straight.

Now all this (& more if required) was typed using a strange thing called knowlage, that’s the art of knowing things
