Sat and watched on TV,  the 1000 boat flotilla as it made its way down the Thames yesterday, apart from the disappointing weather, the spectacle was IMO first class, hats off to the thousands of patriotic families and individuals who braved the rain to cheer and wave as HM Queen Elizabeth passed by.
The disappointing , and flat part of this pageant, was the presentation by the BBC, again IMO, the presenters and interviewers selected by the BBC were just not good enough, I could not point to one of these individuals and say they were up to the task, a lot of unwarranted waffle and inane remarks, also the technical presentation left more than a little to be desired.
I should not complain, the standard of broadcasting is on par with the  general decline of  standards in this country.
One other point,
How many of our European visitors (beggars) made a fortune picking a pocket or two? I doubt most strongly, that official statistics will be published, on how many people reported this offence.

Never say a humorous thing to a man who does not possess humour. He will always use it in evidence against you.

I can only agree with you, Don.  Richard Dimbleby must have been turning in his grave.

The lack of preparation, common sense and simple general knowledge exhibited by the presenters was appalling.

Amongst the many errors/bloomers made, other than those already mentioned are:

Referring to HM the Queen as ’Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth’

On being shown a memento of the coronation "Ah yes! The coronation in 1952"

And the prize for the biggest bloomer must surely go to the presenter who, commenting on the fact that Kate’s hat had been made by Lockes, went on to say that they had made the hat that Nelson wore at the Battle of WATERLOO!!!

Despite the rain (and the BBC) it was a splendid occasion.  The whole Royal Family looked wonderful. Her Majesty and Prince Philip, despite their ages, stood throughout the entire day and never showed a sign of flagging.  What an incredible couple they are and how lucky we are to have them.

Best Wishes to Prince Philip and may he be back home fit and well again very soon.

Give a man an inch.........and he thinks he’s a ruler.

They also observed HMS Belfast "to be the heaviest cruiser in the RN at 91000 tons".

At her heaviest she was a mere 11000, but is considerably lighter than that today due to the removal of a lot of weight. She was also a Light Cruiser anyway.

The Sky Coverage as regards the filming of the Thames was brilliant, let down by the quality of commentary. Some of their comments as the events unfolded were pathetic and at times were rude, eg. Eamon Holmes as the Royal Barge came into view "Red,Green and Gold, i have been on something like that to have a Chinese meal"
I kept switching over to the B.B.C. but they seemed obsessed with interviewing people at the same time so showed a split screen, they used to be so good at Royal events.

I’m reading opinion that the reason the BBC is so bad at such "Royal" occasions is because of a deep-seated liberal aversion to the Queen and the Royals in general.

In which case, perhaps the time has come to ditch all public funding of the BBC and make it stand on its own feet?
