Somehow I think I might be unpopular with my response to this thread.
The woman was drunk and it is common knowledge that ’When drink is in - Wit is out.’ and wit in this instance does not refer to making people laugh. Taking that into account and making due allowances I feel her sentence is far too severe.
When you hear of the ’Slap on the wrist’ type of response from courts for much more serious offences this, to me, smacks of vengeance and not justice.
She has a perfect right to express her opinion in any way she wishes and we have gone much too far along the road of Political Correctness for my liking.
As Dr Samuel Johnson said many years ago ’A man has the right to say whatsoever he thinks of his neighbour. Equally his neighbour has a right to knock him down for it if he so feels.’ I know that I have posted that quote several times previously but I make no apologies for doing it again. It sums up my feelings quite succinctly.
Ron may have had no other motive than to have posted this report simply so that others may read it. I have no doubt that he will, if he feels inclined, to let us know just why he put in on here. If he wishes to keep quiet then that too is his prerogative.
I hope that the - so far - gentle sniping either stays at that level or disappears entirely.
It is all well and good watching a video of someone being ’Offensive’ - using the word judiciously but no one apparently took the trouble to film what happened immediately prior to her outburst.
It does raise the question ’Was she in fact provoked into her outburst?’. After all if someone is singing the National Anthem of another country that could be viewed as being offensive depending on the country of origin of the singer and the reason for said rendition.
I await developments on this thread with great interest.
TC.
