Proposed teachers strike.

The two main teaching unions have announced that they will hold a ballot of their membership with the view to holding coordinated strike action in autumn over the "sustained attacks on pay & pensions, the increased pension subscription, the increased work load, working conditions, conditions of service & the threat to jobs". They have asked Mr Gove, the education secretary, to hold meaningful talks.

The unions involved are the NUT (National Union of Teachers) a hard line & militant union & the NASUWT (National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers) one of the most moderate teachers unions.

Does the panel think that considering these unions represent nine out of ten teachers in England & Wales that Mr Gove should sit down with them & hold meaningful talks?

A situation may be desperate but never serious

It depends on what is meant by ’meaningful’. The teachers do have a stressful job - kids today are not as controllable as those of yesteryear. I think they earn every penny they get but they must realise that teachers bear some responsibility for the financial mess the country is in - they educated the politicians and bankers who messed it all up.

Alright Rev Rog, I would take it to mean that both sides sit down together & attempt to meet a good old fashioned British compromise.

The school teachers can disclaim responsibility, it was us collage & university wallers that have to carry that can.

A situation may be desperate but never serious

Hi John, a Scouse Pedant......nice to meet you.

Now how many others spotted that?
