RAF Cap badge

There was recently a news item about the discovery of a crashed WWII Kittyhawk found in the Egyptian desert. The report was accompanied by a photo of the pilot, Flt Sgt D Copping who was lost. I am puzzled by his cap badge, which appears to be a ’shitehawk’. Can anyone provide any info ?

John.

Looks like the RAF Eagle/Albatross (with King’s Crown).

I’m sure it is, Ray. The Eagle with Crown badge was the Officer’s side cap badge, and I assume that Flt Sgt aircrew wore it as well. I found a photo of Ginger Lacey as a Flt Sgt and he is wearing the same badge.
