Quoting John (scouse) Hirons

Original post:-

How can a Government that can afford the give the richest in the land an extra 5p in the pound stand back & claim we’re all in it together.
                         ……………………

Response to MPs post:-

You will notice that in my original post I didn’t ask for views on the party enacting the policies just the members views on the effect of the policies, that aspect was brought in by the members themselves.

                         …………………..

Surely that original post is a question, and as such is asking for an answer on the policy, and the government implementing it.

Never say a humorous thing to a man who does not possess humour. He will always use it in evidence against you.

Alright Don, Unfortunately there was no way of divorcing the action from the en-actor on that one.

There is no way this or any thread is going to change the minds of those (including me) who have entrenched positions but if it gives someone food for thought or influences those amongst us who have no political axe to grind then it’s not a bad thing. Don’t forget it’s an open debate & if anyone wishes to post in favour of the latest policies with their reasons for their stance then I for one would be more than pleased to see it & would gladly join in debate with them.

A situation may be desperate but never serious

Quoting John (scouse) Hirons,

People moan & groan about the effects of the cuts but don’t want to blame the source of them,

Okay Scouse, people moan and groan about whichever of the two main political parties are in power, nothing changes there, what is missing is the will and determination to do something about it, but that would mean effort, and possibly putting oneself out, far better to moan and groan and hope someone else will make the effort and do the work, then if it /whatever works out, great, if it goes belly-up, something else to crib about, “it weren’t me mister.”

There really is no point in debating if both sides are in entrenched positions, waste of good oxygen. It is my opinion that everyone should keep an open mind, as far as politics are concerned, being entrenched restricts your options. I have swung both sides the political divide, (ie voted) but to be honest have never profited greatly from either party being in power. I am where I am through my own endeavour , which has been working bloody hard all my working life.

At the moment we are in a bad place, but would the other party be able to do better, I think not

Hhhmmmm!!!!

Apart from which, we are going to declare the Black Country independent and let Tommy Mundon run it! It will soon be far more profitable than the rest of the land and a damned sight funnier, innit!

Back to the bad old 30s

The title of the thread is one which in itself deserved a response and I believe I gave the appropriate one when I first posted on this thread.

The 30s have an undeserved reputation for, as I stated, it was a decade during which Britain prospered as it has seldom done since.

I am not going to go over my previous posts on here but would defy anyone to claim that I am currently posting from an entrenched position.

I have been a member for a good number of years and would be delighted if we had the quality and variety of subjects for debate which we had once upon a time.

Regrettably we have lost many of the members who then entered into discussions and came up with telling contributions without descending into farce or kicking lumps out of each other.

I post according to my conscience and the subjects on offer.   Unfortunately we have seen the influx of certain people who will not, for reasons of their own, post intelligent replies but treat every thread alike and post that which they believe to be humorous but are simply false attempts at levity which debases the subject matter.

Would that we could return to the days to which I refer.  I do not believe that we are bereft of members who are capable of such posting and would dearly love to see threads which will initiate the cut and thrust of ’Debate’ and not argument.

There is an old saying that ’One must cut one’s coat according to the cloth’ and if there are not threads which one would like to see then I, and others, must either refrain from posting or enter into exchanges on those which are opened.

TC.
