Instead of bemoaning the things that governments of whichever party are not doing or doing wrong why don’t we, as a collective, put forward ideas which would help everyone.
My first suggestion would be to kick-start the construction industry by putting a large amount of money at the disposal of said industry to build more homes!
This would have a knock on effect by
A) Giving a large number of people a job.
B)  Giving a boost to the manufacturing sector
C)  Providing low cost housing to thousands of families by taking them out of B and Bs.
D) Putting the money earned by the workers  back into the economy.
This would have to be overseen by a special government department to prevent the constructors making too much money at the cost of the tax payer.
Now, this is only a broad outline which could happen if properly controlled.
There are many more benefits that would come from this scheme so let’s hear of more suggestions; please.

Quoting Colin Davies.

As an example a person earning £200000:

At that rate of pay, the person gets NO tax free allowance; so 100% of income is taxable.

Basic Rate tax will be         £6,874 at 20%
Higher Rate tax will be     £46,252 at 40%
Top Rate tax will be          £25,000 at 50%
National Insurance             £7,337

Total  Deductions               £85,463

The reduction in Top Rate tax to 45% will mean that the top rate will reduce to £23,750 a reduction of £1,250.
                                     ................

Clearly put, and easy to understand, the total of revenue collected this way is drop in the ocean on the countries requirements, and as I have previously stated, to people with this income, it is neither here nor there.

One other point I would make, this furore over the food banks, they have been with us for quite a while, they are a safety net for people awaiting benefits, for whatever reason, and have no other source of income, they are there purely to help people in the short term, they are now being advertised in job centers, and obviously more people are aware of them, but they are strictly means tested, only those in dire straits qualify.

The 5p tax relief, and the food banks are ammunition  for the left to begin their ritual of misinformation,  one day they may publish the facts, and be as honest as Colin, but I will not hold my breath.

Never say a humorous thing to a man who does not possess humour. He will always use it in evidence against you.

Hhhmmm!!!!

Very nice, Steve.....I won’t waste your time explaining why it would not work; particularly given your honest intention to provide a solution!

However, I will point out that your model is blown apart by the inclusion of your eighth sentence. This is Britain that you are talking about. Do you have the time to find a sufficient number of straight edged, honest politicians to oversee your plan???? I very much doubt it.

Only grossly radical replacement of the current governmental model will have any possible success in the repair and rejuvenation of Britain given the state that the generations of unskilled, untrained, dishonest pocket lining filth, calling themselves MPs have reduced this country to.

Oh! Incidentally. Unless your plan would give, gratis, these homes to those without, it is highly unlikely that most would be able to purchase them in the first instance.

As regards formulating a collective plan! The majority of political commentators on this site are far too blinkered to see that which is happening around them as they are too focused on barracking the opposition......whichever party it turns out to be...............Still; good luck with that!!

Steve, your intentions are admirable, but the mistake you have made is with the word collective, they just never work, never have, never will, if we had collective brains, we would never make a decsision or know when to crap or urinate.

I am not so naive as to think that the plan I put forward was not full of holes. My intention was to provoke debate and comment and to draw into the debate people who would not normally post on political affairs.
The forums have been bereft of any decent arguments for some time and that is evident from the lack of interest shown by many people who have good ideas. These people are as fed up as I am at the constant bickering between supporters of both of the major parties who tread the same paths time after time.
