My Great Grandfather served in WW1 in Western France. He saw action in Ypres, Somme, Dickebusch, Arras & Bourlon Wood. He was wounded in June & October 1916 at the Somme and again in September 1918 at Arras. His Medal Card tells me that his Regiment number is 72062. He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British Medal which were entered on Role RFA/305B page 21032 and he was awarded the 15 Star, entered on roll RFA/6AYB page 5167. I have tried looking up his Battalions to find more information about his whereabouts and dates etc, but I cant find anything that relates to the Battalion he was in when he was awarded the 15 star. Another thing that puzzles me is that he 36 when he enlisted! He was a miner before he entered the Army. Considering his age, would he have volunteered or would he have been called up? I have attached his medal card, just in case I’m miss interperating it. Can anyone help please? Thank you Deborah | | Report Post |
