They say you learn something new every day.  I never knew that Nosmo King performed in blackface or that his son was the well known actor Jack Watson.  Nosmo - aka Vernon Watson took his persona from an American named Frank Tinney who visited England and always appeared in blackface himself.

It’s strange to think that not all that long ago smoking was fashionable and cigarettes were advertised by famous film stars.

John, you may be too young to remember but the funniest  man smoking must have been the "Drunk Freddie Frinton.

I remember him well, John, I saw him on stage at the Opera House (now Everymans Theatre) in Cheltenham back in the 40’s. Always had a broken fag, usually waving it around in his ’drunk’ act. Rumour had it that he neither smoked nor drank. Had he been gay, he would have had the hat trick!.

The funniest F.F. i ever saw was the "Dinner for One"in which he serves non existant guests drinks in a stately home. (1963)   just Google this on You tube, really funny.
