Mike, thanks for your post,I often look at different threads and sometimes have my say, but just lately I have been put off by all the threads being hijacked and turned in to a slanging match. I know it has happened before and in the end sanity will prevail. I look forward to that happening.

I can only reiterate what Vicky has said.

Back now to the "Crow’s Nest" to watch and see if matters improve!

The idea of G.B leaving the EU immediately is cloud cuckoo land. Ask any economist what would happen and they will tell you that three things would happen in quick succession.
1.  The pound would plunge on the currency markets.
2.  Imports would become very expensive.
3. The U.K.s standing on the world stage would make anything we say irrelevant.
In the present economic situation it’s probably the worst thing that the U.K. could do. By all means fight  for the restoration of powers ceded to the E.U  and make plans to reduce the commitments of monies that go to waste in the organisation. Fighting within the E.U. makes more common sense than standing on the sidelines and shouting without being heard.
I’m sure I’ll receive plenty of flak for these comments but try thinking with your heads and not just your hearts.

Live long and prosper

Hhhmmm!!!!

Like most of us I can remember a time before entrance to the EU and I sit here asking myself how we managed then??? Quite well, as I recall.
I have trouble seeing any real benefit (certainly long term) that has been provided by being part of a club  which most of the other members do not want us to be in (other than when it comes to bail outs.) The main dictates that I have seen coming this way are rules on banana shape, name changes of products and other silliness.
I think that Steve’s points 1 and 2 would be short lived if indeed they did occur.
I agree with his point 3 but would that be any different to what we currently see.

Whether we could withdraw without a deal of damage to ourselves is a moot point. Personally I think that we should but more so I am angry about the circumstances surrounding entry in the first place.
We should never have gone in!

Aaaaaaaaaaarrrrgggggghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough!

Steven Collins, Owen Hunter, Scouse Hirons, John Daly, Terry Carey and Mike Pass.....Hhhmmm!!!!
The above, to one level or another are making a mockery of these forums by either deliberately trying to wind others up with sheer stupidity/antagonistic posting or defending so vociferously that their own posts turn into insulting ones.

I do not pay my FR fees to waste my time arguing the toss with people who have been here for ever and others who have also been here for quite a while. Yes indeed, I will destroy someone who has just dropped onto the site with intentions of wrecking it. We all know that well. Perhaps we need someone to do that in order to distract us from the total crap that has been flying around this past week.

Is there some kind of King of the Castle competition going on here???? If so it is time that it stopped. Quite simply, because I am capable of expressing myself in an intelligent and understandable manner and the fact that I WILL contest that which I find unacceptable, I seem to be regularly accused of being ’how great I am Mike Pass’.......eh??!! There are several variations.
How sad.

Let’s be very clear on this.....I pay the same level of fee as the rest of you. My service rank (whilst of no interest to me) whilst being of lesser or greater level than yours is of no importance on this site. My views are my views. If you disagree with them, you have every right, and my blessing to question them WITH ME! You do not have any right to insult me over them.
I am not always right, regardless of the fact that some here try to convince themselves that I consider myself omnipotent.

I do not care if you find my posting long winded. If you find it boring, it indicates that you have no interest in the current subject and therefore should take no notice of said post. How hard is that? Given the high level of readership of said posts, some people must be happy with them!!
I will not use three words when one hundred and three will fully explain my view at the time. This is not an instant messaging service. If it were I woud confine myself to the concise. When I first joined the site a number of us used to make very long posts. They were, as far as we know accepted for what they were and enjoyed by those interested.

Yes, we hold some strong views between us, myself more than most, I accept criticism of my hatred of the French (not that this is something that I simply came up with to act the prat), my disgust with Forsyth and my total abhorrence of every last one of our politicians. You will have read me making these ’attacks’ regularly but you will not have read me attacking any member who might have chosen to complain to me about them.

If we wish to make our views strongly then I do not see an issue with that. If we wish to challenge those views, I do not see an issue with that.
If we simply wish to attack each other for our views then I feel that we are in dangerous political territory when you think about it.

I have singled out the group at the heart of this issue at the moment but am not picking out individuals, tempting though it is. I am as guilty of much of this as any of us. There are peripheral posters who like to put in their twopennorth and I hope that they are getting the point too.
We should be saving our energy for the clowns who come here simply to cause trouble as new members.

GIVE IT A BLOODY REST!!!!!.....for everybody’s benefit. Please.

Mike, I have read this post, taken on board what you have said and agree in part with it. However you tend to make assumptions concerning other posters which are very wide of the mark, for instance assuming people are not interested in the current subject just because they do not wish to read your long winded posts. It’s when your long winded posts have nothing to do with the current subject (like the one you sent me earlier in this thread) that I have no interest in.

You are as guilty as anyone else for misunderstanding other members posts as you have stated, same as some other members on site, me included. What I don’t like is being told how I should and shouldn’t post, if I wish to post one liners or use attachments to get my point across it is my right, as long as it’s within the site terms.

I can just hear you now saying "bloody hell, he’s doing a long winded post"

I agree with you that resulting to personal insults is no way to go, but that seems to be the way it always ends up on here. Could the PM be used to sort individual grievances out between members instead of going from thread to thread name calling and ridiculing?

Right that’s me whack, need a lie down now.

Morality is doing what’s right regardless of what you’re told. Obedience is doing what you’re told regardless of what’s right....What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right.

Quite so, Owen and I have made no secret of my part in these farcical uprisings. Now that you have had your say, let me make the point that my post this morning was not a prelude to a discussion but a ’take it or leave it’ strong request. Like yourself I would correct part of your reply but that would only be counter productive.
The only other thing that I would say to you, Owen is to please stop assuming that every post made to you is being written in an angry manner.
Fine, let’s get back to adult discourse then!
