Remember Them 412

Today, two soldiers of the Royal Logistic Corps were killed in the south of Helmand Province. Their families  have been informed.
We keep the families in our thoughts and prayers at this  very sad time, asking the Lord to strengthen them and give them courage to face the future without their loved ones.

Father of all mercies and God of all consolation,
you pursue us with untiring love
and dispel the shadow of death
with the bright dawn of life.
Give courage to the families in their loss and sorrow.
Be their refuge and strength, O Lord,
reassure them of your continuing love
and lift them from the depths of grief
into the peace and light of your presence.
Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
by dying has destroyed our death,
and by rising, restored our life.
Your Holy Spirit, our comforter,
speaks for us in groans too deep for words.
Come alongside your people,
remind them of your eternal presence
and give them your comfort and strength.
Amen

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them

Remember Them 414

Once again, with sadness, we record the death of two of our servicemen in Afghanistan. A soldier from 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and a Royal Air Force airman died in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province when they were shot by  Afghan police. this brings the total British sacrifice in that benighted  land to 414. The next of kin have been informed and our prayers and thoughts are for them.

Lord of all, we praise you
for all who have entered into their rest
and reached the promised land where you are seen face to face.
Give us grace to follow in their footsteps
as they followed in the way of your Son.
Thank you for the memory of those you have called to yourself:
by each memory, turn our hearts from things seen
   to things unseen,
and lead us till we come to the eternal rest
you have prepared for your people,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them

Remember Them 415

It is with deep sadness that we record yet another British soldier laying down his life in Afghanistan. The family of this soldier of 1st Bn. The Royal Welsh have been informed and our prayers and thoughts are with them at this time.

Lord, we pray for those who mourn,
for parents and children,
friends and neighbours.
Be gentle with them in their grief.
Show them the depths of your love,
a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven.
Spare them the torment of guilt and despair.
Be with them as they weep beside the empty tomb
  of our risen Saviour,
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Remember Them 417

Yesterday, a soldier of the 3rd Bn. The Yorkshire Regt was killed in action in Afghanistan, he was attempting to rescue an Afghan policeman when he was shot. His death comes only a few hours after Cpl M. Thacker of the Royal Welsh was killed.

As we remember all who have died in this conflict, we pray for their families as they mourn. We share in their grief as they face life without their loved ones.

Lord, we pray for those who mourn,
for parents and children,
friends and neighbours.
Be gentle with them in their grief.
Show them the depths of your love,
a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven.
Spare them the torment of guilt and despair.

Jesus Christ our Lord.

Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them

Remember Them 419

It is our sad duty to record the death of two more of our brave lads in Afghanistan in the last week.
L.Cpl Ashworth of the Grenadier Guards was killed in action last Wednesday. A soldier of 1st Bn. The Anglian Regt died yesterday.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families at this time.

Lord of all, we praise you
for all who have entered into their rest
and reached the promised land where you are seen face to face.
Give us grace to follow in their footsteps
as they followed in the way of your Son.
Thank you for the memory of those you have called to yourself:

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning
We will remember them
