Remember Them 407

Tonight, we have learned that an Afghan soldier shot and murdered two British servicemen, one Marine and one soldier, before being killed himself.
Surely our politicians must see that Afghanistan is a lost cause and that further loss of British lives is indefensible. Our troops should come out now.

We pray for the families of these two men, and we share in their sorrow.

Father in heaven, we praise your name
for all who have finished this life loving and trusting you,
for the example of their lives,
the life and grace you gave them,
and the peace in which they rest.
We praise you today for your servants
and for all that you did through them.
Meet us in our sadness
and fill our hearts with praise and thanksgiving,
for the sake of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ.

Amen

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them

Remember Them 408

It has been reported today that a soldier of the Queens Royal Hussars died in hospital here in the UK on 8th April of wounds from two months ago in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers go out for the family of this 408th soldier to give his life in the Afghan conflict.

Lord, we pray for those who mourn,
for parents and children,
friends and neighbours.
Be gentle with them in their grief.
Show them the depths of your love,
a glimpse of the kingdom of heaven.
Spare them the torment of guilt and despair.
Be with them as they weep beside the empty tomb
   of our risen Saviour,
Jesus Christ our Lord.

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them

Remember Them 409

The number of British military deaths stands at 409 after Sapper Connor Ray from 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) died on 18 April from injuries sustained in an explosion in Afghanistan on 11 April.

Our thoughts and prayers are for Connor’s family at this terrible time. As they come to terms with his sacrifice, we look to the Government to end this waste of lives.

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Remember Them 410

Today we were informed that Guardsman Michael Roland, age 22 of the 1st Bn. Grenadier Guards has been shot and killed whilst on patrol in Helmand. This young soldier from Worthing, West Sussex is the 410th to die in that foreign field. Our thoughts and prayers are for his family and friends. May they find solace in their fond memories and in the knowledge that he died doing his duty.

Father of all mercies and God of all consolation,
you pursue us with untiring love
and dispel the shadow of death
with the bright dawn of life.
Give courage to the family in their loss and sorrow.
Be their refuge and strength, O Lord,
reassure them of your continuing love
and lift them from the depths of grief
into the peace and light of your presence.
Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
by dying has destroyed our death,
and by rising, restored our life.
Your Holy Spirit, our comforter,
speaks for us in groans too deep for words.
Come alongside your people,
remind them of your eternal presence
and give them your comfort and strength.
Amen

They shall grow not old
As we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the Sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them
