Thanks Scouse for putting Gordon right on the oath and as for Queens shilling it was 1/3p a day when I joined. My thoughts on our troops out in the M Eastto me they are a brave elite force and I am proud of them and when we hear of a soldiers death out there a lump comes to my throat so don`t` you try being a smart ars- Gordon asking  why I joined up with my attitude on this war which everyone says that it is preventing the bombers doing their job here in the UK--thats a load of hogwash.

Scouse London was the only City shown on TV demostrating against these wars, we had demos here up in Cumbria and also over the Borders.

and finally Scouse I only hope when you mentioned
"conchies hand book"you are not referring that I am in that catergery  my 20 years service proved that.

Smart Arsed eh?

No David I wasn’t being a smart arse I,m just confused by your posting. It does come over as you believing the lads and lassies should not be laying their lives on the line in Afghanistan or anywhere else for that matter.
Now then lets move on.

Hold the line steady boys, the Old 22's are here.

Alright Dave, I think it’s a bit disingenuous of you to accuse Gordon of trying to be a smart arse when all he had to go on is what you type in, which also led to me bringing up the "conchies handbook". I will of course take your word that you are not a ’chonchie’.

To be honest I don’t care if there were marches from here to Timbuktu they stand for only what the marches want not the will of the people & definately not the oppinion of me or the majority of the people I know. Don’t make the mistake of thinking the vociferous few has any correlation with the vox populi. I would point out that there have been marches demanding that we pull out of Northern Ireland, demanding that we should not kick the invaders out of the Falkland & there were even protest demonstrations against us going to war with Hitler. So much for demonstrations.

You saying "preventing the bombers doing their job here in the UK--thats a load of hogwash" is not only insulting to the young men out there protecting us but has no bearing on the truth & could be taken as attempting to undermine the fighting spirit of our troops. The only people who want our troops out are the Taliban whos territory we are taking at a great cost of their lives & a gang of protesters who are in the minority in the UK.

A situation may be desperate but never serious

Hi Scouse.
I know you are passionate about the war in Afghanistan and, to some degree, I agree with you, but, and I say this with care, you could put a number of questions to the general public and get differing answers all depending on how you put the questions.  For instance, if you asked the  straightforward question "Do you want our troops out of Afghanistan?" the answer would almost certainly be "Yes"
Then if you asked " Under what conditions?" then the answers would become more complex I think!
Some would answer "No conditions, just bring them home unscathed"
Others would answer " When the job is done"
Yet more would say "When the Afghan people  want us to leave" and there would be many various answers surrounding those already stated.
I would also suggest that there are few ’conchies’ amongst those who just want our troops out. The majority of our people are compassionate and caring about our troops
This is an emotive subject and will continue to be so for a long time yet.

Live long and prosper
