I cant even remember when I last saw a bullfinch .We are finding lots of song birds  are not showing up in the summer ,there used to be lots on the hillside above the creek  nesting but not the last few summers .One kind used to come  in May and you would see the cocks  on the top twig of just about every willow tree  singing his song  but last year none  ..
Syd themRangers  when out training with the reg force get army pay .Not bad  a trip across canada  all found  and pay as well .

Hi Pete. How are you?, hope all is well and you are getting those bags packed for that holiday.
First ref the Bullfinches which are for sure a most beautiful bird. As I said I have only seen one in the last 26 years here but do you know at my last address we saw many. How so and why?,we had just the one purple leaved Prunus Pissardi Nigra planted in the middle of the plot and every year without fail just as it was/had set its flower buds for the new year they would arrive in droves and devour the lot. Only the flower buds, the leaf buds were fine and all year we had this nice dark purple foliaged tree to please us but precious few flowers. Ah the fickleness of nature!,so very complex over all and whilst we do indeed know so much about it all theres still so much we have to and should learn I think.
A pet theory of my ignorant self is that all of the many varied creatures be they big or small all integrate and work together to keep the Planet going and surviving, all interdependent. Interfere if you dare!,it can only end up finally, some way or other I think with a very negative result for all of us. Nuff said, give it a bit of thought.
Ref the Rangers. Its good reading about it all and for sure they are very self sufficient, I read one where they were doing their own welding repairs to sleds etc. Did you say they receive Services pay, but are they counted as Army?.
Best wishes.Syd.

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you lovely people can tell me the name of the plant in my photo. the photo was taken while on a woodland walk in Port Meirion, North Wales. the plant seems to be growing on the tree, I thought you might be able to help me Vicky, any suggestions?

Luv gail x
