On This Day.

Wow, this is a thread reborn - great stuff.

My little book says (well, it doesn’t really - I have to read it) that
On This Day in 1742 Gebhard Berecht von Blucher, Prussian General nicknamed ’Marshal Forward’ was born.  He helped to beat Napoleon at Waterloo.

In 1928 Arthur C (Charles) Clarke science fiction writer was born.

In 1925 construction work began on the Mersey Tunnel - it took nine years to complete - I wonder if Scouse was the shop steward.  (don’t tell him I said that!!!!’

Today way back also saw in:-

1770 - Ludwig van Beethoven make his way into the world, didn’t he learn to play the piano by ear?

Jane Austen showed a little Sense and Sensibility by arriving today in 1775.

1889 - Sir Noel Peirce Coward, wit, author & general limp wrist about town made his debut

1920 One of the deadliest earthquakes in history hit the Gansu province in China. The 8.6 quake killed 200,000 people.

I’ll end on this happy note.
