I managed to watch most of the broadcast in Oz & found it incredibly moving. Having spent 47 years as a pilot with my fair share of bad moments, I just can’t understand how these young men, many teenagers, could go through all this & still smile at the end of the day. The sight of the "old boys" still present is a mark of their collective courage. I salute you all.

Well bugger me.

Phil was kind enough to post this at 1339hrs on the 28th June and here we are just about 12 hours later with only one reply (two including mine).

Perhaps his post was difficult to read because the spacing had went astray or perhaps it was a post that nobody could moan at.

BBC, Sky and whoever else covered this emotional event did it well and the veterans are proud that this has happened.

Lastly, will this thread go the same way as the BBC non-coverage one?

Alright Murray, I haven’t bothered to answer this thread as I knew it wouldn’t belong before it was turned into an anti-BBC tirade & that’s just boring.

A situation may be desperate but never serious

I watched the coverage on BBC2 at 1700hrs and found the tissue I was clutching very handy, especially when I saw some of the veterans wiping away a tear

There is a nice report on ’An airman’s blog’ which you might like to read.

Dave, the contribution of Canadian, Australian and New Zealand Forces was given full credit in Steven Daltons’ speech but if the BBC didn’t broadcast it overseas it doesn’t really surprise me as they are far from being the once respected broadcaster that could be relied upon for truth and balance that they once were.

Hi Pamela,

It’s lovely to hear your comments.  I knew Steve Dalton quite well as part of 20 Sqn then 41 Sqn. he was a well respected pilot and all round Good Egg.  Wish I could have heard his speech.  I shall hunt U-tube and the media and see what I can find.
