Luke 12:4-5
King James Version (KJV)
4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Frederick the Great was not a believer in Jesus Christ. In fact, he scoffed at Him. There was the time at one of Frederick’s parties, that he made rather coarse jokes about Jesus and of course, the people hearing him roared with laughter, After all, they did not want to upset the great man. General Von Zealand however, was a devout Christian and on hearing the jokes, he rose stiffly and addressed his ruler. “Sir, you know I fear not death and you know I have won 38 battles in your service. Now, I am an old man and soon, I must go into the presence of someone greater than you, I speak of the Great God who saved me from my sin, the Lord Jesus Christ whom you are blaspheming against. I salute you sir, as an old man who loves his saviour, on the edge of eternity.” Frederick replied with a trembling voice saying, “General Von Zealand, I beg your pardon, I beg your pardon, I beg your pardon.” The party quietly ended. | | Report Post |
