Honours List MBE (Second World War)

Does anyone know how to get a look at the Honours List MBE for 1945, Page 2479 to be exact? Thanks.

Thanks for your reply - for some reason, I can’t reply to you (!) - the date DD Stewart MBE received his "gazette" was 2/6/43. On the certificate of service that this site has online, it says "Toronto Scottish Regiment", which was originally true, but then "Dent" became Royal Canadian Regiment (Corps of Signals) - and then all very hush-hush as to his duties in the U.K. I’d love to see the reason for his MBE award - members of the family heard this ceremony on the radio - "for his work in India", but his war record does not mention that theatre. He was spotted in North Africa by a friend of the family, no mention of that in his file either. I’m very intrigued.

MBE Awards/Honours List MBE

Hello - thanks for your reply - I responded above (could not figure out how to reply initially) - Not sure if "date of gazette" means "date of awarded MBE", but that’s all I’ve been able to find out. I have Denton’s personnel file but there is no mention of why he received this award - and other details as mentioned above. P.

1943 Honours List MBEs

Hi Phil. The date in his personnel file says 2/6/43. On this site there’s a mention of Page Number 2479. I think I have confused you by saying 1945. Sorry.

Peggy, all the London Gazette will have is a post that he has been awarded the MBE, it will not provide any details why.

You may be best served for most of your requirements by contacting the MOD directly:

Army:
Army Personnel Centre Secretariat
Disclosures 2
Mail Point 515
Kentigern House
65 Brown Street
Glasgow G2 8EX

You must be the Next of Kin though to obtain these records:

For relatives wishing to obtain Service Records of Deceased soldiers they must apply to the same centre using the prefix:
Army Personnel Centre,
Historical Disclosures,
Mail Point 555

A widow or widower can obtain a search for their late spouses Service records free of charge, where as for any other family member there is a charge of £30 (currently). These searches much be accompanied by a Kinship form and a Search Document.

Full details of how to go about this procedure can be found on the veterans-uk.info website.

Please note however these charges are for a search only: they do not guarantee a record will be found & produced, many may have been lost or are even still classified in certain special circumstances.
