lincolnshire regient

i been tryig to work out a story i been told. my grandad was in world war 2 and was due to be posted abroad, but he broke his leg playing football. the rest of his battlion went out and they all got killed on a beach, and my grandad was the only survior of his battlion becuase he didnt go. . it was not dunkirk. can anyone shed any light on this story. i think he was in lincolnshire regiment as i have just come across a lincolnshire regiment badge what has been passed down to me. my grandads name was stanley wright

It wouldn’t have been Dunkirk.

It could have been any beach assault, however the most likely would have been D Day: I’ll take a look when I get a moment later in the next week as to which beach of the D Day invasion beaches the Lincolnshire regiment attacked.

Curious: there is no mention of Lincolnshire regiment on D Day maps (I have the up to date midnight on 06/06/44 full map), it could be he was attached to this regiment perhaps?

The Lincolnshire regiment landed on D day +4 (4 days after the initial invasion) as far as I can tell?

I think he must have been in a forward regiment or attached to another unit if he was there on the day itself.

hi thanks

i have found out from relatives he was posted around cromer area before he broke his leg and the rest of his battlion went abroad and they all died. wether that will help anyone find out what regiment he was in or if anyone else has any ideas how i can find out what regiment he was in it would be of great help and appreication
