Medal Mystery

Please can anybody help solve this mystery.

My grandfather was Harold John (Jack) Burton. WW1 army number 36540

The medals awarded were:

Victory Medal WW1
British Medal WW1
1915 Star
Defence Medal WW2
Long Service Medal Special Constabulary

The mystery is that we have the ribbons but not the medals- why would they be separated?

We would love to know that these medals are being cared for and perhaps re unite them with their ribbons
