hi maureen, i hope you can / do get to the helles memorial to se the name of your maternal grandfather ,   my sister and i went to france to see our 2 uncles names who were also on memorials ,  and believe me , it is just as poignant and moving ,and still brought tears to our eyes ,  i think you`ll regret not going.

nothings impossible, to the person that doesn`t have to do it.

I went to the War Graves Commision site and found that you are right Ray, my grandfather doesn’t have a grave just his name on the Helles Memorial, panel 136-139, i had been hoping to visit his grave someday but i’ll never get the chance now. Maureen,

Your Grandfather is listed on a fantastic memorial which includes no less than five Victory Cross holders.

There are also other notable names on the memorial.
