Some time ago, I was told the story of a man who held a subscription to a well known monthly publication. This magazine was produced by one of the large conglomerates which owned many publications and to keep track of it’s customers, it used a data base which not only maintained customer records, it also sent out reminders to them when their subscriptions were due.
One day, something went wrong with this system resulting in one customer receiving over 1,000 reminders that his subscription was now overdue. The customer, who lived in a small village with no post office and who didn’t own a computer, made the lengthy journey to the nearest town which did have a post office and sent a cheque to the publisher together with a little note which said, “All right, I give up! Send me the magazine!”
It may seem strange, but that is often how God calls some people. He hits them with the message so many times, that finally, they give up and say, “ OK God, you win! I submit to you!” It is also the way God pours His blessings on us so much that they overflow, as it says in Psalm 23 verse 5, “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” His provision is often more than we actually need, not so that we can be wasteful, but so we can pass it on to others. | | Report Post |
