A minister from New England, USA, by the name of William Tennat, took great care in a sermon he was preparing which he hoped would convince a famous pagan of the truth of Christianity. His attempt to deliver his tremendous argument was so confused, he found himself forced to bring the service to an early close with a fervent prayer. The effect this astonishing failure in such an accomplished preacher led the unbeliever to believe that at previous times he was preaching , William Tennat must have been under Divine guidance. This ultimately led to the pagan’s conversion to Christianity. God was able to accomplish in silence, that which the preacher wanted to do with his eloquent preaching. Reverend Tennat was often heard after this event to say that his ‘dumb’ sermon was one of the most profitable sermons he had ever delivered.
