A word of caution

Just a word of caution Ken particularly if you take a party of old soldiers to the Aboretum, make sure that they are all OK for longish walks, I am not too good on my feet nowadays due to the dreaded Arthritis and I personally found the walk to the central memorial a bit much, I didn’t see any provision for disabled people, although they may well have wheel chairs available and I just didn’t see them, but in any case I was alone on my visit so I just had to walk, but I saw a few people with that ’How much further is it’ look on their faces.
It is well worth the effort but the more rickety of us would not readily volunteer to walk those kind of distances.

They have some chauffeur driven 5/6 seater electric golf carts now to take people up to the main memorial
it makes it easier for the less ambulant.

Thanks for that Colin, that fact alone makes a return trip a definite possibility.

I have a few photographs that I took of my visit if anybody cares to see them, they can be found at.

As Colin Davies has reminded me, although I hadn’t really forgotton, my visit was combined with a number of other ex-servicemen, none of whom I had previously met. There’s a very nice pub across the road from the George, and what followed our visit in that pub was one of those spontaneous fun sessions you don’t forget. Plus the Black Sheep ale, which isn’t at all bad!
