“And for this cause, God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” (2 Thessalonians 2:11)
It was in the 18th century that Dr. J. Beringer, professor of Natural Philosophy at Wurzburg University, in Germany, developed what can only be described as an obsession that fossils were capricious fabrications of God. His students, somewhat mischievously, set to work making hundreds of clay tablets, including one, signed by none other than Jehovah.
These tablets were hidden by the students in a nearby hill. When the tablets were later ‘found’, Dr. Beringer wrote a book on the subject and refused to even consider his students confessions that it was all a prank. He believed the students were trying to take away his glory.
Eventually, he found tablets bearing his own name. This was when he realised he had been tricked. From then until the end of his life, he spent every penny he could raise in buying back the copies of his book.
The old adage says: "You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." | | Report Post |
