problems

while we talk about justice and sentences to fit the crime, spare a thought for the six lives taken by that portugese lorry driver , six lives and he gets a whopping great sentence of 3 bloody years , thats six months per human life , and you can bet your life he will only do about a year of that , nu labour being tough on crime again   makes you sick ,just imagine a new fred and rose west ,or a new myra hindley , they would probably get six months probation under new labour , ginger

Alright Jim, What the hell has Labour, new, old or present got to do with a judge passing sentence? In case you haven’t noticed with have an independent judiciary in this country. This is the law da Silva was charged under;

 Causing Death by Careless or Inconsiderate Driving Section 2B of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (as amended by the Road Safety Act 2006) This new charge can be brought when a driver causes the death of another person because their driving fell below the standard of a careful and competent driver or when the death was caused because the driver was driving without reasonable consideration for other people using the road. The maximum penalty is a prison sentence of five years and an unlimited fine.

 da Silva was tried, found guilty & sentenced by a judge acting without politicians (of any party) telling him what to do. If you had bothered to look up the facts before getting on your anti-Labour hobby horse you could have found this;

 "judge Mr Justice Irwin told the defendant, 46, that he would serve at least 18 months in custody before being allowed out on licence."

 So once again you were wrong, you seem to make a habit of it.

A situation may be desperate but never serious
