I was one of the very few who was awarded The Silver Jubilee Medal. It was a poor political decision at the time that restricted the issue, which should have been made to all who had served for a reasonable period. However when the Golden and Diamond Jubilees came along, the awards were restricted those serving with 5 years service. So many Veterans with that amount of service were denied the awards. I had served from 1957 until 1991 in Infantry, Airborne Forces, and Logistics but like so many others were denied the awards that appear to have been given freely to Politicians and many others who had no Military service to their record. Lots of outstanding issues regarding medals - Here are a few...
GSM 1918/62 with Clasp Cyprus had a 120 days qual’ period,
whereas later medals were issued for much shorter periods.
ACSM qualification period reduced to 720 days - Fine ! but not if you left before Jan 2008.

I served in the Far East between December 1959 and May 1961 and also between February 1963 and August 1964. I was awarded the PJM by the Malaysian Government for service during the Malayan Emergency and the Bornio confrontation but my application for the GSM has been turned down by the Medal office despite a statment saying that all recipients of the PJM were entitled to the GSM Over a month ago
If you have landed on the ground on foreign soil on day one that should be the criteria of issuing any medal. You have been deployed on Op service, if you’re tour is cut short for non Medical reasons and have not fulfilled the criteria for the medal theses guys/gals lose out. Over a month ago
