Keeping them under British rule - Started by Site Admin
Forces Reunited and our patron Simon Weston support our Falkland Islanders.
Tensions over the Falkland Islands have risen during the run up to the 30th anniversary of the fight for the Islands in 1982.
Fishing vessels and supply ships have been boarded and impounded and the islanders constantly face harassment to their daily lives from their nearest neighbour, which has escalated since the discovery of oil locally. Argentina is reasserting a historical claim to the islands despite the unanimous rejection of this claim by the Islanders who all regard themselves as British.
907 people on both sides lost their lives before the surrender of the Argentinean forces on the 14th June.
Simon Weston & Forces Reunited believe it is right & proper that the people who inhabit, raise their families and work on the islands have their own sovereignty and decide under whose rule they are governed.
Join this campaign today to show your support to the peoples of the Falklands Islands and the veterans who fought to ensure they remained under British rule.
As long as the residents of the Falklands Islands want to remain British Citizens, then let them. Argentina has no legal claim over the islands. I was there in 1982, and I say KEEP IT BRITISH....... to hand it over would be the absolute insult to those who fought and died liberating the Islands in 1982. Over a month ago
I’m sorry David Longman, but in the case of the Falkland Islands you couldn’t be more wrong. Certainly, until 1982, they were seen as a drain on the UK economy, but since then, the islands have built up a strong local economy based largely on their fisheries and, apart from the military presence, the cost to the UK purse is virtually nil. The Islands even make a financial contribution towards the cost of keeping our Armed Forces down there. The benefits to the the Military in terms of training benefit must without doubt outweigh the cost of the protection they offer. Over a month ago
All of these out of the way places must cost goverments heaps (all tax payers money). It’s nice to have far away places, but the cast, then there’s the respect from the locals, the reception to govenment forces. Just look around - Malta, Greece, South East Africa, Australia, we could go on forever. The moral is - let the live there own way, with there own power, but negotiate to have landing rights as a support base. Over a month ago
A definite YES. The islanders have the right to decide their sovereignty and their own future. They should be able to expect loyalty and support from our Over a month ago
The right to live in a free society is a fundamental basic concept of the UK and our people around the world must have the right to decide their own destiny. The Fleet Sailed South to uphold the right for decedents of the UK to have this precious concept restored in the face of Tyranny. Sadly not all of us returned to the land we call home but in restoring the Islands to its rightful homeowners, it is the final resting place of our fallen comrades, and will for ever be a part of our thoughts and memories. The Falklands Islanders have the right to decide their own future and if that future is not as part of the UK then we have to support their decision, but it is the Islanders own decision to make. Over a month ago
The morons in Parliament would give the Argies the Isle of Wight if it suited their current agenda ( Probably the Isles of Dogs , Mann and Channel too ) Far too important an issue to be left to an idiot of Cameron’s ilk THEY want to remain British WE BACK THEM AND MAKE SURE THEY STAY BRITISH. Over a month ago
Not sure about the history, but the right of the Islanders to decide their own future should be paramount. The Argies should stick to raising beef,is what they are good at,(even that was suspect a few years ago ? to do with a ban on corned beef or something like it,) and leave the fighting to those who are capable and willing to do it. A word of caution to the islanders however stray too far from the declaration of being British to one of being Falklander may weaken their support in UK the Boston tea party comes to mind. The UK has often supported Peoples who have eventually turned against them. Falklands Beware Over a month ago
Argentina should keep their noses out of the Falklanders lives, because 30 years ago we did a job which no-one gave us a chance and we proved them wrong. Therefore, we should keep the British Sovereignity over the Falklands. So beware Argentina for trouble!!!! Over a month ago
Agree with Mark Davies above, that as long as they wish to remain under British Sovereignty, they should be allowed to do so for as long as they wish to Over a month ago
It is only right and proper the it is the peoples of the island who has the right to govern them and whose flag they wish to fly over them.we warned the argies once, and our lads backed it up with their lives. The argis must be nuts if they think we will hand it to them now. jim dolan AB Over a month ago
argentina should check their history books it has never been their island. the islanders wish to remain under the british flag. argentina is skint again so lets try and get some simpathy from our neighbours. this time our destroyers and submarines have the capability to take out the whole lot in one swoop beware what you wish for argentina Over a month ago
why on earth would anybody want to be considered Argentinian the only thing ever to come out of there is corned beef and Nazi war criminals Over a month ago
I don’t think we should "keep" them under British Rule. But whilst they have the choice -and that is their choice - then we should maintain our soverignty whilst they wish us to. To that end, The Argentines and the pseudo Eva Peron, should take a hike!

Our Troops gave their lives to keep the Falklands British. This land should always, always remain so. They should not have died in vain!!! Over a month ago
The Falkland Islands are British. The Falkland Islanders want to stay British. Many servicemen gave their lives, others suffered terrible injuries, to ensure this happened. The British Government has an obligation to the Islanders and to the Forces that served in the Falklands to take any necessary action to keep the Islands British. Stay alert. Over a month ago
I served at Kelly’s Garden (San Carlos) in 1983/4 with the RAF providing comms support to the Chindet and the Battery. All the people I worked with and met thoroughly reinforced my feelings that what we did in ’82 was right and that as long the Falkland Islanders wish to be British, they should remain so. Support this campaign! Martin Welch (RAF and ModCivservant Rtd) Over a month ago
Third time lucky - Continued. and Kelly’s Garden where I met some of the Islanders who were as British as most back in the UK. Since 1982 UK Armed Forces have been busy and paid a heavy price in non-British sovereign territories. If The UK can do it for others, then it has a duty to protect British people in a British sovereign territory, otherwise what’s the point of having an Armed Service. Over a month ago
My last comment was short changed. All I typed disappeared into the unknown other than my first few words. So here goes again - As I said previously I was with 7Sqn Chindet and while at Port San Carlos Over a month ago
Although my tour in 1990 was cut short due to injury, I truely enjoyed the time I was there. Lets build it up further and have married quarters. We don’t just have short tours in Gibraltar for example, I know many a serviceman who would do a 2/3 yr tour if their wives/husbands were with them. LET’S SHOW THE WORLD THE FALKLANDS BELONG TO THE FALKLAND ISLANDERS ALL OF WHICH WISH TO REMAIN BRITISH. Over a month ago
Hard to believe this is still an issue !
Young men made the ultimate sacfrice protecting the peoples right to remain British on British soil Over a month ago
Here we sleep in death, unbetrayed but honored in name , so for you of little faith and governing powers can keep that peace for which we few paid the ultimate price only a soldier can give, In time our children shall come to understand when and how our fate was changed by the hand of mankind, only then can you measure our worth and resolute against the actions we did indeed undertake for the name of liberty, Dare we call from beneath this cross of stone, always reminding you of the confusion from history, what lessons have you learned, will you repeat the past mistakes of your ancestors who walked this world before, Can we rest from the toils of battle at peace with the understanding that history will show the distinguished who have fallen will live on in the hearts and actions of men who remember the injustice from their past, or will fall victim to events we ignored.
What a sad state of affairs this is, so many gallannt young lives lost and ruined on both sides. It brings to mind the old saying, that those who fail to learn from the lessons of history are condemned to repeat them. That said the Falkland Ilanders right of self determination to remain British must be upheld. Surely no one in thier right mind wants to see more blood shed over this issue, certainly not the Islanders, the Brit seviceman or the poor Argentinan conscript. Unfortunately with a corrupt, if not criminal regime in Argentina once again and a weak ineffectual self serving bunch of political incompetents in Britain, it may yet come to that, God I hope not but I would nt put money on it. Over a month ago
Gibraltar has been British for the past308years the Spanish are claiming it back, does that meanthat the red Indians have a legitimate claim to have America returned to them haha what a carry on Over a month ago
it seems this latest storm in a tea cup is all over finding OIL surprise surprise so if we give in on this and loose also something that has been part of Great Britain for a few hundred years what next give GIB back to Spain NO NO NO Over a month ago
The way the current (and the previous lot) government is going, in a couple of years, she’ll just be able to fly in and announce that the islands are hers.... there’ll be no troops left to deny them..... a plague on ALL politicians, I say! They always use the troops and then let the troops down afterwards. Look at the appalling statistics of ex-forces homeless on the streets of London (and elsewhere). Rant over. I should know better. Most on here will support that view, it’s the eejits in government who don’t understand! Over a month ago
i served there in 82 on the fearless and again in 84 at whalebone cove comm centre. Great memerioes of the place. Great people too. Keep them British, otherwise all our loses would have been in vain. Over a month ago
Argentina are testing the waters so to speak, as they see that the British government depleting the British fighting force and will in a very short period of time be unable to send a fighting force of the scale of the 80’s and so they will be all the more confident that they will be the victors next time. Come on Cameron stop depleting out fighting force or Great Britain will become Little Britain. Over a month ago
Cristina Fernández de Kirchner (Face like a robber’s dog that one?) blarting on about how Britain is trying to hold on to it’s colonial past and how wrong it is?
Yet old monkey face is in essence attempting the very same thing by rattling her nations patriotic fervour.
Man alive leave it be, your nation made the greatest of mistakes by invading destroying any hope of a noble discussion on the administrative affairs of this fine island.
I fear the spineless politicians that infest parliament and have destroyed our nations ability to be an effective fighting force throughout the world will eventually bend to the will of the UN and roll over as they have cannibalised our services to a point of ineffectiveness.

I and a few other Tri Service types helped to set up the South Atlantic Fund during the summer of 82 and opened all the mail containing donations. I shed a few tears the first day at the outpouring of kindness from the British public, then made myself get used to it as I set about creating files on each life lost, their family and what help was needed most urgently. Then we needed to arrange help for the injured and so we needed to create a file for each injured person. I’m proud and humbled to have done it and I do not believe that those lives were lost or maimed so that the Islands could be handed over by politicians.
Have a vote in 100years when all of us involved will be gone and respect the Islanders wishes. In the meantime - the Islands remain British. Over a month ago
I read an excellent book called ’Chicos de Guierra’ which was written by an Argentinian Conscript who fought in that campaign. He didn’t want to be there and could see no reason for the war yet he had to fight there too. I also served down there just after the conflict and have some pleasant memories of the Falklands. Check out my facebook page for the hundreds of photos I took down there. let us remind our politicians that these islands are not just another pawn to be bandied around for more of our armed forces to die fighting for. Many died needlessly and many still carry the physical and mental scars of this conflict and will do for the rest of their time on this earth. Over a month ago
If the people in the Falklands should vote on this. If the outcome is to stay with the UK, then so be it. If the Argentineans start another war, our problem is how do we get there. These people in our ridiculous government have got rid of troops and equipment. They don’t listen to reason, they keep selling and giving our assets away, total idiots. Bring back Guy Fawkes. Over a month ago
Robert with the cutbacks in our forces soon defending the british isles will be too much for our lads and lassies in uniform, once again our forces are being sold down the river by our so called Mps, they havent learned one lesson in two world wars, and now we are slipping back to less forces to save money in the short term, god help us Ray Over a month ago
Give the Falklands to the Argentinians and it would be an insult to all those British lives lost in the conflict.I hope this Government get it right on this issue! Over a month ago
I served in the Falklands from start to finish. One of my jobs as a communicator was to type up the casualty lists. A very sobering thought when I saw how many names I reckonised. Not a task I would wish on anyone. So keep the Argies out and keep the Islands British. They are more British than Britian. It’s what the Islanders want Over a month ago
Just like we in Ulster wish to remain British then so should our British people in the Falklands remain so and also in memory of all who fought that war, giving lives and limbs. not forgetting the personal trauma that must visit each and every soldier who served there.
I think of those who protected me as a child in 69 in Belfast and my kids as they grew up. I am sure each Islander feels the same for how they were protected in 1982. Over a month ago
I really cannot see how the argentinians can make a claim now when they were not interested over 200 years ago!.
I only hope that our politicians do not let us down again as I am extremeley proud of what we achieved then, before and after this conflict. Over a month ago
Don’t often agree with what our politicians do, but Cameron got it dead right when he walked away from that woman.
Stay away Argentina, or get another kicking! Over a month ago
I am not a Brit but the appeasers in your Government need to be reminded there are some things more valuable than money "Your Honour"and if the people of the Falklands want to remain British then by the Lord up above tell the Argies to stuff off. If they are stopping fishing boats etc do the same and tell the Argentinian ambassador you beat them once you will do it again only this time you will invade. Now you have paid you ww1 Over a month ago
I am pleased with David Cameron for refusing to play the game by declining a letter incorrectly addressed by the Argentine president.
The Falklands were expensive. 255 men expensive. The Argentines ought to be told in words of 1 cyllable that if they need to be kicked off the Falklands again we ought to move all of their air bases out of range so that a 3rd invasion would be less likely. In other words their losses would be vast. Over a month ago
We should defend the right of any people to determine their own future. The British government, of whichever colour, can only do financially what the British taxpayer is prepared to fork out. Argentina is probably not in an economic position to attack again. If they did, the British reply is difficult to forecast in the present situation. Sentiment is fine but without economic possibilities would be difficult to support militarily. Over a month ago
i served down the falklands on hms intrepid 1982 and i do think that after so much hard work and dedication that was endured in the conflict it would be awful to let the argentines have them back because they’ve spat out there dummies, even though not all the islanders appreciated what we had just done, they still ripped off the military service personel with there high priced goods and snide remarks..perhaps others have forgotten them days. i spent nearly 3 years down the falklands on various ships but i still wouldnt give them away, there british and we should all be proud of our achievement and our history. Over a month ago
I served at Mt Pleasant after the war, and found the Islanders to be more British than we are. Like Jeff White, I’d go back tomorrow to help them. Peter Tamblin, Flt Lt Rtd Over a month ago
Capt Jeff White(retd) I served in the Falklands with 2 Field Wksp From July 82 -Feb 83, a big clean up job after the War. I met all the Islanders during that time and found them to be extremly patriotic, I might now be 70 but would go back to help if needed. JUST CALL !!!!! Over a month ago
If we give up the falkland islands at any point in time then all those lives lost will have been pointless. I was serving at the time and it was a harrowing experience to receive news about friends who weren’t to return. Let’s remember those and keep up the fight no matter what! Over a month ago
Is our empire shrinking I hope not we need ant Falklands and Malta. I am afraid there may be blood spill in the near future once the european countries settle on who’s who an start a war to maintain it ........................ Hope that never happens. Over a month ago
I didn’t serve in the Falklands, I had left the service by then, but I was luckly enough to have had the opportunity of working down there at the Lighthouse Seamen’s Centre on two seperate occasions, and absolutely loved it. I found it to be a lovely country with the folk there being very warm hearted and friendly and none more pro British than they are. What right do the Argentinians have to try and impose their selfish and arrogant will upon another nation? We as a nation must support the Falkland Islanders and keep them British. Over a month ago
I applied to go to go as soon as the conflict started but didnt get sent until 84 and then stayed 8 months and after talking to a few islanders I think they should have our full suport. Over a month ago

What do the indiginous people of Argentina think about this claim to the Falklands islands when the Spanish conquerers stole their country from them. Perhaps this question should be asked first. Over a month ago

I have just added two photos to the Gallery, that I took while on holiday in the Falkland Islands, I don’t know how many of you who were stationed there got to see these plaques. Mick Cathorne...... I’m not so sure mate....I wouldn’t put it past the Argies to offer the yanks a sizable chunk of the oil and we could see the yanks siding with the Argies in a very favourable way....even against the UK.........We’ve all seen what the yanks are capable of when the word OIL is mentioned..........According to recent news reports...The yanks have been making noises in favour of talks between the UK and Argentina whilst all the South American countries have formed a block to oppose the UK from keeping the islands.....including banning ships which fly the Falklands flag into South American ports..........(Chile backs the UK and always has done) All as we need now is a weak government...(and we’ve got plenty of that in the UK) and the islands could well be handed back within the next 30 years which isn’t that far away.......Also, Argentinas president has promised Spain full support in getting the Brits off Gibraltar If Spain give Argentina thier support.....If this happens....It could also become a European issue....... A handfull of men held off the attack for several hrs before succumbing to grater numbers and a lack of ammo. The contingent in the Falklands now are vastly superior in numbers and equipment. Without the element of suprise in their favour I think any Argie invasion would be squashed before it began. I really dont think the Argies want another kickin’, although the oil is now an incentive for the impoverished nation it wont win their government any friends when they fail again. Over a month ago

We should remember the dead and injured on both sides. Both British and Argentinian. The Galtari regime was pure evil. And the current regime does no justice to the memories of those that died. I think the majority of public consensus is that the Falklands remain British and should the Argentine Republic start a conflict then Britain is expected to defend The Falklands. Democracy and freedom of choice is a basic human right which should be protected. The Islanders should be able to decide who governs them and I sincerely hope the British Government does the right thing, but I’m prepared to be disappointed. Over a month ago
having served aboard HMS Glamorgan in 82 i feel our government has let us down with the cuts to front line services. without a carrier and a large enough navel force we would not be able to prevent another invasion. that leaves me feeling sick in the stomach after seeing first hand the death and suffering of friends and shipmates. we cannot let thier deaths be in vane. You know, when I first set foot on east Falkland, my first reaction was "bloody hell, our guys are dying for this s**t hole" BUT, we then met some of the islanders and very quickly realised that it was worth fighting for. They are British, and very proud to be. They are really lovely people who just wish to be left alone as they have been for decades. I saw our guys dying for these people, I was also on Sir Tristram when it was hit along with Sir Galahad. Those great British Welsh guards along with all the navy and the rest, should not have died for nothing.
We have been stripped bare by the labour government over the last decade or more, and would not be able to defend as we did in 82 without help!!!!!!!!!!!!! Over a month ago
The Falklands War cost us 255 lives. We no longer have any carriers or Harriers thanks to MoD incompetence. If another invasion were to occur the cost of retaking the Islands could be high due to lack of any air cover. If any British soldier dies in the Falklands now then the Minister of Defence ought to be shot. Over a month ago

Terence Judge BEM [Former RM]:
For, Chuck Gillen - would you care to expande?
For, Michael Morgan - Major General Thompson [who I know and served under!] was merely stating the blinding obvious. Speaking as some one who was there in 82, without the two ’Carriers’ [Hermes and Invincible] and their ’joint’ RN/RAF Harrier Force, the ’mission’ to retake the FI would have been most aptly described as ’Mission Impossible!’
Like you, I too alway’s thought of the Tories as being the ’pro’ the Armed Forces party, sadly under DC that position has now changed. The loss of HMS Ark Royal and her [and the RAF’s] Harrier Force was a fatal blow to every one who has [and still does!] serve in the UK Armed Forces.

They are more British than we are and deserve the right to select which style of Goverment they want, I was there in 82 along with many others and I have met many islanders since in this country, they all say the same things today as they did 30 years ago, we all know what that is. Ask the former F/Secretary Dr David Owen what a nightmare it is to try and speak with the Argys, it was hard in those days, nothing has changed. Over a month ago
Major General Julian Thompson was right in his recent comments that our forces are "Lions led by donkeys". An old saying but how true!! Our servicemen and women have been consistantly let down by successive governments. I always thought that the Tories were always pro forces but I have been proved wrong, very wrong. Julian Thompson went on to say that if the Argentinians did attack again we would not have the capability of repelling them. What a disgrace!! We old soldiers will never accept defeat never - until the last man stands!! Over a month ago
The Falkland Islanders wish to be British therefore Argentina should Shut up and concerntrate on their country and leave what is not theirs alone. There won’t be another war Cameron will hand it over without a car for the Islanders. Over a month ago
These patriotic comments are so commendable. That we still have such people is wonderful. The Falklands never belonged to Argentina. They, and Argentina belonged to Spain. We took the Falklands from Spain and then Argentina gained independence from Spain. The people of the Falklands must be free but unfortunately freedom does not come for free, we have to fight for it and fight to keep it. What does a couple of little islands in the South Atlantic matter? What does the Isle of Wight matter, what does Canvey Island matter? What does the Isle of Dogs matter? Where is the Isle of Dogs? It is in the east end of London. We wonder if the Argies would like that too. Over a month ago
Got to admit, at the time, I had no idea where the Falklands are, maybe Scotland I thought. Now as we all know they are next to the UK, well 8000 miles, give or take, which means they are British, under the union flag, so to all who wish otherwise...dont even think about it, it aint gonna happen. I served with 5 Bde in 82, and the locals I met were brilliant. They were British and wish to stay that way. The only worrying thing now is, should the Argies invade again, we can not repel them as we did before. We have no aircraft carriers, no harriers and no service personnel to do the job. God knows what would happen. Over a month ago

I`m not so worried about the rabble rousing Argentinian politicians as I am of some high level brits, who, but for Mrs Thatcher would have handed both Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands over to Spain and Argentina. There are those who would still argue to give them away.
How many of the politicians and the public remember the Korean War,the Malayan campaign,Egypt,Mau Mau in Kenya,Aden,Indonesia. Even the Iraq campaigns (2) and Northern Ireland, which has almost faded from memory. If there is no oil in the Falkland Islands, then be assured that they will eventually go. We can`t afford to garrison them, we will be told. After all we have to support Greece,Portugal,Ireland etc, etc, etc.
God Bless all who went to the South Atlantic, I do hope your efforts were not in vain. I live in hope but,I`m a realist. Over a month ago
The British inhabitants of the Falklands were supported in 1982 by our brave service personnel, who fought and died to protect them, our government and our country "GREAT BRITAIN" should continue to support our British island of the south pacific, I am 63 now but would willingly fight to protect those people living in the Falklands a part of this great nation as I would fight to protect Her Majisty the Queen! I took a vow in 1966 when I accepted the Queens shilling, that vow still stands... Argentina is biting off more than it can chew if it wants to carry on with this rubbish!!! Support this campaign lads!!! Over a month ago
I firmly believe that the Falklands must remain British, we must not allow another war, too many lives were lost on both sides surely in this day and age the diplomats could agree a deal on some of the revenue from the oil and gas. After all that is all the Argentinians want the Islands for now.

The Falklands belongs to its inhabitants which are British. God bless those who never came back from freeing the Falklander’s in the last Falklands War. Deepest respect for all those who served and those who were wounded.
Lest We Forget Over a month ago
Those people bullied Britain into a war, thinking that distance would be there ally, they were wrong. Remember they took over Islanders homes amongst other things. We lost a lot of good young men there, in an unwarrented invasion of the Falklands. The Islanders want to stay British, and British they will stay until HM Government says otherwise, NOT the Argies. Over a month ago
Back in’82, the Falkland islanders wanted to stay British. We fought the Argies and won. The islanders still want to be British, so Argentina, sort your own country out. We won the islands fair and square and we will always support the islanders. They’re British. Over a month ago
No way we should give it up (ever.)What do they want it for,I think it is to take their own peoples mind off the troubles at home. We should look after the British people who live on the Islands. Over a month ago
As a naval veteran I support the Falkland Islanders who wish to remain British. Under the U.N. charter all peoples have a right to self determination, that determination as stated by the islanders is that the do wish to preserve their British identity. Argentina is only stirring things up for internal political reasons. Their lady president is trying to reincart herself as a modern Eva Peron. Well hands off, the islands are non negotiable. Over a month ago
god bless all our service men and women and keep the falklands british that what the people of the falklands wont.and thats what they will get Over a month ago
I did two trips to the Falklands 82 and 83 and the islanders we met in 83 said the islands are British and should NEVER be handed over to Argentina and they couldn’t believe we came half way round the world to protect them

The Argentines have NO soveriegnty rites over the FI, they have been Britisgh for at least a century or more and the Argies have never (as far as my knowledge) had any settlement on the FI. As long as the Is;anders themselves want to be British then that settles it for me. Are the Argitne pliticians in trouble again and trying to divert attention of internal issues???? Over a month ago
The sovereignty of these islands, like many areas of the world, was established many years ago. The area is of significant military importance as is Gibraltar. The government has already looked at returning the sovereignty of Gibraltar in recent years to Spain. The Prime Minister is wrong to say that the islands will retain their sovereignty whilst the islanders have that desire. The sovereignty should remain British forever as should Gibraltar. The United Nations should inform Argentina that we are not re-writing history and that sovereignty is not for discussion. Do you have faith in the United Nations or our Prime Minister, sadly me neither. Over a month ago
My feelings remain the same; back off Argies, we did you once, and even without the major facilities to defend the Falklands...and I feel sure we could muster them if we had to...even if we had to use pedaloes, you’d still lose! Such is our Forces ability and resolve. Be warned! Over a month ago
This goverment could yet live to regret the day they made those stupid defence cuts,we have no ships no carriers hardly any aircraft, and the army stretched to the limit does Cameron think we can rely on other people to help us out Over a month ago
Many good men and women gave their lives in that short war, in the defence of that far off island group which is a part of our dependencies. We have a Duty to defend it and its right to Freedom. Over a month ago
If Falkland Island fishing Vessels and supply ships have been boarded and impounded, that is an act of piracy and the British Government should be acting on that. The Islanders themselves have made it quite clear, many times over, they are British and wish to stay that way, no need for any UN intervention.

Argentina must be suffering from some internal conflict. This latest threat along with the backing of other South American countries is to take the pressure of internally. The Falklands must retain its own sovereignty Over a month ago
None of us went down there for the good of our health, it was to protect and defend British sovereign territory and British it is going to stay, it would be an insult to a lot of brave people who gave their lives if was to be given away. Over a month ago
for anyone who thinks the falkland islands should be in argie hands i suggest you look at the footage of sir galahad, sir tristan, and all the other navy vessels that were hit in bomb
alley and the way all services worked together to remove casualties from said ships in the face of enemy fire.look at all the other battles from goose green to tumbledown.i am proud to have been part of the task force that reclaimed these islands, they are british and after all the sacrafice of 1982 they should and will remain british.never forget the servicemen that gave their lives, that the people of these islands could remain british.may all those who lost there lives in honour of our cause sleep easyI WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. Although i did not get down to the Falklands i was in the Royal Navy serving and was on a Ship that at the time could not get there and we were deployed so a better ship could go down we lost a lot of good men down there at 72 i would gladly go down i can still fire a gun god bless all who lost there lives and KEEP THEM BRITISH Over a month ago
Did two tour’s my self with the RAF Regt down Falklands. There’s no way the Argie’s could ever think of trying to regaining the Island’s again like 82. They proberbly think because we are commited to Afghan, and we wouldn’t have the fire power to kick their arses again. Chile and the other surounding nation’s can back off too !! the falklands islanders want to stay british-end of discussion. all the comments make excellent reading i can only think there must be an election on the way in argentina .best wishes to the islanders - and this campaign. Over a month ago
I’m a former RM [24 years service] I had the honour to have been part of the Task Force that re-took the Islands in 1982. Two very good former RM friends of mine lost their lives there and many more served there in what was known prior to the Argentine invasion as Naval Party [NP] 8901. Over a month ago
Truth is incontravertible. Malice (Argentina) may attack it, Ignorance (other nations who have no clue of the history) may ridicule it, but in the end there it is!! This is all about natural resources (yet again) hey hoe. DO NOT GIVE IN

Haven’t the Falklanders already decided what they want a few times over?? What is the problem then with any government anywhere in the world listening to what has already been said. Oh hang on that’s the problem... governments don’t listen. I didn’t get chance to go in 1982, as i was at a ’screen posted’ RAF station... now in my 50’s... i’d be more than happy to go and help them if any non-british government anywhere in this world wants to start. Over a month ago
The Falklands have a history that includes many years prior to the 1982 conflict and during all of that time the island people have remained British by committment and choice. Argentina is not a part of their dream.
I did a 6 month tour in the Falklands in 1987 and the people I spoke to wanted the Islands kept Briish. Give the the people their wish and for the people who lost their lives to keep the Islands British.

This country of ours is giving too much away. We must stay strong and keep the Falklands in memory of those who gave their lives to keep it British. Over a month ago
It will make a nice change for our Troops to be able to shoot at a clearly distinguishable target, No enemy dressed as a peasant Farmer.
Imagine how unbeleivably unwinding it will be to know the person opposite you in the Argentinian uniform is the enemy and is a legitimate target to be stopped at all costs.
Would also be nice to fight for the UK for a change instead of some mandate written by the UN or NATO. Britain is Great and its troops are always ready to do their duty for the people of GB. Over a month ago
Good view points by all those before me here. Natural support form our Coallition - not a chance. They are not able to keep what they have here; never mind the Islanders. I toured there in ’89, and thought they were beautiful islands and the people were great. I just hope that Cameron will show back bone and do the job! Over a month ago
its all bluster and bull by an argentinian government trying stay in power, the president is also up for election nuf said..... greetings to all on the Falklands Over a month ago
strange how this has all heated up since the powers that be have made it public that if the argies invaded we would have little chance of retaking them again as we have no carriers from which to launch any attack. well done to our government, the same government that supports our troops so well in Afghanistan. If my History serves me, the Spanish Government of the 1680 period Ceded the Falkland Islands to the United kingdom as Part of a Deal to Stop us Robbing the Spanish Main, Long before Argentina was born.
Let the Falklanders Choose their Destiny.

WE HAVE SHED MUCH BLOOD IN WINNING BACK THE FALKLANDS AND IT IS BEYOND THE FRINGE OF DECENCY THAT WE SHOULD AGAIN LEAVE IT OPEN TO ATTACK OR TO NEGOTIATE THE JURISDICTION OF ANY PART OF IT TO A BUNCH OF EVIL MINDED BULLIES LIKE THE ARGENTINIANS.

Maggie Thatcher, love her or hate her, (a bit like "Marmite"), was no middle of the road PM, she was incisive and strong. Despite our present "wishy washy" Government, I don`t think that the Argies would want a "rematch", having already tasted the resolve of our soldiers, sailors and airmen in 82 Over a month ago
Maggie Thatcher, love her or hate her (a bit like "Marmite"), was no Middle of the Road PM, she was "decisive" and strong. Despite our present "Wishy Washy" Government I think the Argies are just posturing and, having already tasted the resolve of our lads and lasses, haven`t a cat`s chance of catching us unawares this time around, in my opinion. The F.Islands are British, they`ll just have to accept that. (Very highly strung are the Latin Americans). Over a month ago
the falklands are letthe islanders decide for theselves what they wish to be and both sides to agree with them, (IF THE ARGEES WANT WAR AGAIN WE DO NOT NEED A BLOODY BIG ARMED FORCES TO DEAL WTH THEM BRITAIN IS AND ALLWAYS WILL BE GREAT ) GO THE BOYS/GIRLS OF THE FORCES . Over a month ago

David Cameron is a weak Prime Minster and will not have the resolve to keep the Falklands under the British flag. I only hope the British people will force the politicians to do so. What did all those young men die for. Over a month ago
I keep hearing there are no aircraft carriers but HMS Illustrious is still operational. We have no fixed wing aircraft though as RAF won the toss and the Tornadoes won over the Sea Harriers a long held ambition of the RAF to scupper the Fleet Air Arm. We should let Argentina know we have a Submarine or two there though its only fair!!! Over a month ago
Just because the UK have no aircraft carrier’s does not mean we would not be able to respond to an invasion. Our troops are battle hardend the Argentines are not, what a waste of life it would be for the Argentines. As Carole Thatcher once said to an Argentine mother, "You bombed us, we bombed you, you lost". Nothing has changed as time has passed the Island’s are as British now as they were then. Over a month ago
I agree with all the foregoing: Argentina has no legal claim to these islands, whatever the nationality desires of the inhabitants, The last owner pre-British annexation was Spain, but prior to that, the islands were in fact, French..... hence the spanish form of the name, "Islas Malvinas", the islands of the people from St Malo (in France!). If anything, we should, depending on our political leaders, cede them to France, if the logic that the Argentines seek to impose is followed to its fulfillment....... and at the same time, perhaps we should make the US give the land back to the native americans...... and the Argentines give the land back to the Patagonian aboriginals....... silly political posturing by the Argentinians both from a point of diverting attention away from their own economic woes and, not least, because (as already mentioned by at least one other correspondent), OIL........ rant over! I suppose I could have just said "F**k off", Argentina, but that would have been SO unconsidered....... Over a month ago
The Islanders are British, want to stay British and should be allowed their own destiny. Trouble is the politicians rattle sabres they dont know how to use and its down to us to bleed. Over a month ago
Having undergone surgery at Port Stanley Hospital as a crew member of HMS Bigbury Bay (1952/53)I can still recall and appreciate the hospitality of the locals. Their allegiance to Britian is without question Over a month ago
It would appear that the Islanders have decreed that they wish to remain British. Therefore I believe we have a moral obligation to support them, and if necessary, defend them from potential agressors. Over a month ago
Has the British government made any public comment on this issue ? The islanders should know that Britain is there for them if needs be !! Over a month ago
Only if our government is weak will Argentina own the Falklands. They never owned them in the first place. The Spanish did but Argentina seceded from them . A lot of people on both sides died in the last fight over them. Do the Argentinians want more? Over a month ago
At the time of empire making the Falklands were Spanish. Britain took them. Argentina seceded from Spain so they have no claim to the islands as they have never owned them. If anybody has a claim to them it is Spain and they haven’t up to now. The Argentines tried to steal from Britain because they thought us to be weak. We are not ! How would they respond if I was to put in a claim for Beunos Airies after all my grandfather came from there. Over a month ago
I never went to the Falklands during my time in the Army nor at sea but, a very good mate of mine (Hugh Anderson) came from Port Stanley - One of the Best - he served on the Expeditionary Vessel ’John Biscoe’. He would never have wanted to be ruled by Argentina. Respect the wishes of the locals. Have you got your ears on Prime Minister? Over a month ago
After all that we went through during the Falklands conflict, it would be a very sad affair if we turned our backs now. Anyone who has served there will know how British the islanders are. Over a month ago
I believe that the Falklands should remain British. As an RAF Veteran and still involved with the RAF on a weekly basis I am sorry to say that the RAF is no longer in a position to help in the Defense of the Falkland Islands should they again be invaded - it was touch and go in 1982 Over a month ago
As one who served during the conflict and lost friends (REME LAD) attached to 2nd Bn Scots Guards, was it worth it then and has 30 years on changed very much with the political mind? Over a month ago
Many of my comrades died in defence of the Falklands. But if the Falklands now feel they are sitting on a pile of liquid gold and want to go it alone-they should tell us Over a month ago
I served in the Falklands and got to know the Islanders very well. They are more patriotic and British than what we are. British they are, British they be and so British they must remain. Furthermore, what about the supreme sacrifice 255 of our comrades made and those still suffering from the trauma and wounds sustained. We are not going to betray them all .... are we? Over a month ago
The Islanders have all ways maintained their desire to remain as part of the British Colonies, so must remain as such. We must be careful however, we could not put another task force together with most of the resources scrapped and troops stretched beyond over stretch. I was on JSPSU Dog Section along side RFIP 1989 - 90. Good place. Over a month ago
The Falkland Islanders can and should decide for themselves if they want to stay as part of Britain and we should back them all the way in their quest. Over a month ago
